CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!

Last night was a BUSY, BUSY, BUSY night for me.  With all the snow, the halls and rooms were a little bit messier than usual.  I can't believe that Ms. Cinnamon (that's what I call her now cause we are BEST, BEST, BEST friends) has to clean the same things EVERY night.  You would think that the kids of Galbraith school would be cleaner.
Ms. Cinnamon says she doesn't mind, though.  She loves her job!  Especially now that she has me to keep her company!  We talk about a lot of things, her and I.  Well, she does most of the talking and I SQUEAK my two cents.
You sure do notice different things when you are short like me.  Do you know what my favorite thing about Ms. Cinnamon is?  Her RED SHOES!  Did you know she had RED SHOES!  They are awesome!  I'm thinking of getting myself a pair, well if I needed shoes, that is.

Worked hard again last night.  Can you guess where we are here?

In Grade Three!

HOWDY-HOWDY-HOWDY!  It was so much fun being a cowpoke in Ms. Clack’s classroom today!  The students sometimes sit an area they call “the Campfire Circle.” They “Round Up” word wall words and “lasso” good books.  I found it amazing to watch them listening to my adventures.  They seem to just LOVE-LOVE-LOVE my story!  Later, while rolling on the floor, I gave myself quite a headache as I bumped into chair legs and walls. This made the students giggle. I was happy to be back in my cozy cage.  They were very gentle with me as I was tuckered out from all my activity.  As I settled down for my morning sleep I heard someone whisper, “He’s the best hamster in the west!” YEE HAW-YEE HAW-YEE HAW!

Today, I spent the afternoon in Mrs. Inaba’s class. It was the perfect class to be in on a cold, wintery day. Instead of looking outside at the snow, I found myself looking at the “beachy” things in the classroom and it made me feel WARM-WARM-WARM! The students were so excited to meet me and once again, I impressed them all with my amazing rolling ability!  I have to say it never ceases to amaze me to see all the different types of shoes kids wear nowadays . . . red ones, blues ones and even pink ones!! After recess, I went to Computers with Mr. Scott and the students. They were checking out my blog as I explored the Computer lab in my ball. It was FUN-FUN-FUN! Poor Mrs. Inaba. I think I may have given her a heart-attack! When she opened the door to come in, I rolled right passed her and into the hallway. She quickly put me back and closed the door. Then I decided to give Mr. Scott a scare! When no one was looking, I popped the lid off my ball and started to run around the Computer lab! (Both Mrs. Inaba and Mr. Scott should have paid more attention to the first tip I gave them about hamsters being skillful “escape artists”!)  I can’t wait to see who I will meet tomorrow . . .

When Mrs. Chase came to get me I was so excited! She let me run around in my ball in the library.  Two preschool boys where there.  They would scream every time I rolled toward them.  Imagine, big boys screaming at little ole me!  Mrs. Chase explained that they weren't screaming because they were scared, but excited.

Stop-Screaming-Giffin had to go with his dad and the bell rang for the end of the day.  Mrs. Chase put me in my cage and I was STARVING and DIRTY!  When your ball is your bathroom AND your cage, things can get a little dirty.  Everyone thought I was so cute when I was eating and washing myself.  I tell you when you're the STAR there is NO-NO-NO privacy!  How does a hamster get a break from all the attention?  Mrs. Chase has turned into the PAPARAZZI!

Night time wanderings

Have you wondered what I do when you are away?  I can tell you, there is no time for sleep.  It is all WORK, WORK, WORK when the lights go out at Galbraith.  Ms Knibb does her cleaning at night and I do my best to keep her company.  I love to roll in my ball and follow her around to keep her company.  Can you tell where I've been wandering around in this video?  Post your comments if you do!  Who knows where I'll be tomorrow night!

Wow! What an incredible day I’ve had with the students in Galbraith Elementary! After a nice long snooze in the morning, I was able to take a little turn in my ball in the grade one classroom with Mrs. Rozee and her very excited students. They were so quiet and gentle that I wasn’t the least bit nervous! In fact, I think I might have even frightened one of the little girls in the class because I was so eager to “get the ball rolling” with our greetings! Imagine, a harmless little critter like me making great big children nervous! It wasn’t long before we all became great friends and I just can’t wait to see them pass by in the hall so I can squeak a great big “hello” to all of them.  I overheard a few of the students wondering whether I had my notebook and pencil with me, little did they know I’d been recording my adventures from the whole day while they were out for recess.  I wonder who I’ll meet tomorrow…

Whew!  My morning with Mrs. Wenaas' class tired me right out.  I was SO-SO-SO tired that I slept through most of Mrs. Morrison's class (sorry that I was too tired to play, fantastic fives).  They were so nice to me and wanted me to play but I was exhausted and even fell asleep in my ball.  I was very happy that when they put me back in my cage they had put a very special treat in there for me.  Two almonds!  They were delicious!!!  I ate one right up and decided to save the other one in my cheek pouch for later. I hope I can visit them again later when I'm not so sleepy.

Whew!  What a morning!
I had just settled in for my morning sleep when Mrs. Wenaas woke me up to introduce me to her students.  They were SO-SO-SO excited to meet me.  Boy, they sure had a lot of questions about hamsters.  I ran around in circles to make sure I greeted every single student and then I went back to my cage for a drink and a snack.  I was just settling in for another nap when I realized the class was reading my book!  It was FUN-FUN-FUN to listen to the story about how I first met Aldo Amato.  I miss my old friend, but I am HAPPY-HAPPY-HAPPY to meet all these new friends.  After recess the students worked on showing me what they knew about addition and subtraction, they sure have learned a lot in grade 3.
This afternoon I am visiting Mrs. Morrison's grade 5 class.  I wonder if they are reading my book too.  Well I guess I better rest up for my debut in Mrs. Morrison's class, it is tiring when you are the star of the school.

My Debut

Whew! I am sure tired! It has been a scary morning for me.  Mrs. Chase came in early in the morning and introduced me to Ms. Knibb.  She will be keeping me company at nights.  She is nice.  I sniffed her and I can tell she will have treats for me! Mrs. Chase filled my food dish and them cuddled me a little.  She told me to get ready for my DEBUT.  I didn't even know what that was.  "Humphrey," she said.  "There are a whole lot of people that are excited to see you.  Are you ready to be a star? I love going to assemblies" Squeak for yourself, Mrs. Chase.   I can tell you, I was NOT ready to be a star!  I felt like Justin Bieber on the red carpet! (Of course I know who Justin Bieber is, doesn't everyone?)That's when it got a little scary! I was so glad to be safe in my cage!  Did you know there were over 400 people in that gym!  There was clapping and cheering.  I would have been flattered if I wasn't so terrified!  I have never seen so many people at once!  It was a little overwhelming so I hid in my house most of the time.  I peaked out and noticed all these big people wearing hamster faces on their bodies.  At first I was terrified.  Then I remembered something else about STARS.  They have body guards.   I am smart enought to  figure out that those people must have been my "Hamster guards!"

Sorry I didn't make a better debut.  But I promise that I will get braver as I get to know you better.  You have to remember that I am only 3 months old so if I seem a little shy, I hope you will forgive me.  I started to feel a little safer when I saw my new friend, Ms. Knibb at the assembly.  And I did peek my nose out again when I heard the music.  I was shocked to see my "hamster guards" dancing on the stage.  They were dancing the "Hamster Dance".  That is my very favorite dance.  Does it surprise you that I can dance?  Hamsters have lots of rhythm.  Oh ya, I am a Hamsta
Here are some pictures of the assembly.

LOTS OF PEOPLE

THESE SMALL PEOPLE ARE MORE MY SIZE!

THESE DANCERS HAVE THE "MOVES" AND THEY HAVE GOOD-LOOKING T-SHIRTS!

I spent most of the time after the assembly sleeping!  I was so so so tired!

After lunch, Mrs. Chase put me in my ball and we cruised.  I got to go and visit the kindergarten after they had snack.  It was a good thing I was inside my ball or I would have had a feast and probably made myself sick.  I got to play with the kids there.  They brought over some funny animals for me to play with.  I think I would like to visit kindergarten again.  It is fun, fun, fun there!

After kindergarten I cruised the halls.  There are A LOT of halls to cruise around at Galbraith.  People will need to start looking down. so they don't step on me.  I wandered into Mrs Nelson's class, Mrs Wenaas' class and the gym.  They were playing basketball in the gym. That is too dangerous for a little guy like me!

So far, things look pretty good at Galbraith.  Mrs. Chase told me that tomorrow I get to spend the morning in Mrs. Wenaas' class.  It will be good to see my old friend again. Did you remember that I got to live at her house before coming here (check out my earlier blogs).  One thing that I am happy about; so far I haven't seen any CATS!

Well, it's time to get back in my cage.  All of this typing is making be sleepy...and hungry!

I leave today with a hamster tip.
Don't poke your fingers in my cage.  Sometimes I can't tell between food and fingers!

Sunday 26 January 2014

I am so so so excited about coming to Galbraith tomorrow!  I hope that I get to meet all of the nice kids and maybe even visit some classrooms.  Please please please don't let all of those nice kids hold me.  That is too too too much holding!  I don't want to get scared and accidently bite someone.  That would be sad sad sad.

I am going to nibble on some fresh lettuce and try to relax.  At this time tomorrow I will be at Galbraith meeting all of my new friends.  Yay!  Yay!  Yay!

I am so so so excited to come to Galbraith!  I hope hope hope that there are no cats in your school!

Tuesday 21 January 2014

Hi!  I'm Humphrey.  I'm a hamster.  I came from the Pet-O-Rama store.  It was a pretty good place to live but I like my new life much-much-much more. You can learn a lot about life by observing another species.  That's why I want to go Galbraith Elementary School for a visit.  I will have FUN-FUN-FUN visiting all of the classrooms.  Maybe I'll even teach those kids a thing or two!

I will tell you a SHH-SHH-SHH secret... I can read and write! I made this blog so that I can write about my adventures at Galbraith.  The kids there are nice-nice-nice and I can't wait to tell you what they are up to!

Love,

Humphrey
